Roadkill Review 2025
Science + Design created the infographics for the Roadkill Review 2025, a citizen science project by Österreich forscht. The aim was to present the data in an informative and visually engaging infographic overview while raising awareness of the issue.
What is the “Roadkill” project about?
Roads pose a real threat to many animals.
In the citizen science project “Roadkill,” citizen scientists across Austria work together to document where and which animals are killed on roads. These data help researchers better understand patterns and underlying causes, and develop measures to protect both wildlife and people.
“Roadkill” is coordinated by Florian Heigl and Daniel Dörler at BOKU University, together with numerous citizen scientists.
Data is collected via the Roadkill app. The findings are analysed annually and published in reports as well as a visual annual review.
What Is Citizen Science?
Citizen science is research that everyone can take part in. Interested individuals contribute observations, collect data or actively participate in research projects—following scientific standards and in close collaboration with researchers.
